In order to understand the styling of the brand Nasty Gal and the types of photos they take for their commercial shots to go on their website, I made some mood boards to develop a better understanding. We then styled the outfits according to the style Nasty Gal present, as it expresses “cool girl in LA” vibe, and contains layering of items as well. We were aiming to shoot outfits that expressed a winter vibe. Close ups were completed to show the details on the outfit, as well as back shots of the outfit. We were aware of the correct position the hair needed to be in for each shot so it wasn’t blocking any of the details. Mood Boards were completed, for hair and makeup, a reference board, and model casting according to the style of Nasty Gal.

Reflection

The aspects I feel went well was the consciousness of which poses suited each outfit. As we studied the type of poses they used to show the clothes off; therefore according to the outfit we picked the appropriate shots. As one of the outfits contained flares, therefore as I was the model for this outfit I made sure to show off the flare either by walking, or posing with a bent knee to the side so that the flares were visible. Additionally the other outfit contained a side split in a dress, therefore to make the slit visible the model was directed to sway side to side and to also walk so the leg was seen.

Also I feel the fact that we were aware of the correct position the hair needed to be in for each shot so it wasn’t blocking any of the details went well.

However I feel the aspects we could of improved were making sure there were no accessories that shouldn't of been there on the model such as hair bobbles.

Also the second aspect I would of improved was to make sure the hair was more out of the models face on some of the photo's.

Therefore the aspects I'd complete differently in the future is making sure I pay attention to the small things, as they will all work together to persuade the consumer to purchase the products.

I learnt that attention to detail is key, for example even how much wind you waft at the models hair, as you only need little wisps to blow out and also how different poses will show off the outfit in the right way. Also how to constantly take photos to avoid time wasting and to capture the best photos.

Development:

Due to me understanding how to shoot and position just one individual model, for my development I decided to use more than one model and completed a shoot that would go on Boohoo's website in an edit section, so the viewer of the website can view this to give them inspiration on how to style the items. It was for the winter Christmas edit.
