Reflecting on the assessment centre

I attended the assessment centre not really knowing what to expect as I have never attended anything like this before.

Therefore I wanted to make sure I prepared sufficiently for the day. In order to prepare for the assessment centre event, I made sure I researched both Hearst and Kinfolk's magazines in great depth, to make sure I had a lot of knowledge about them.

In relation to this to show my understanding I created Mood boards showing the differences between each magazine and a SWAT analysis board to support this.

Additionally for the interview I prepared for it by reading possible questions that may have come up and prepared my answers that I would of expressed.

However the area that I would have improved for my preparation from these three areas are the preparation of the interview questions, as I would create more of a mock up of an interview to get used to people/ employees asking me questions that I don't have time to prepare for.

I took a lot of thought whilst planning my outfit for the day as I wanted to express the correct connotations. As I wanted it to reflect my style with it still being suitable for interviews and group work. I felt comfortable in my outfit as I looked smart yet I still kept my personal style

Due to me not being a regular at Etihad stadium (only been there a few times) I wanted to make sure I planned my route so I knew exactly where I had to go, as I was using public transport I don't often use, such as trams. Therefore I also set off earlier than I needed to, to allow time for public transport to be late. Therefore due to my efficient time management I made sure I arrived earlier than I needed to.

Group work

Whilst completing the group work and not meeting any of the individuals previously, I felt like I didn't want to offend anyone or speak over anyone. Therefore I was conscious of when to input my ideas.

The aspect that went well during the group exercise, was how everyone supported each other's ideas, and built on top of this to improve the final idea.

The aspect I would change or do differently for the future when involved in a group exercise, would be to make sure I voice more of my ideas instead of holding back to allow others to speak.

I would complete this improvement by allowing the individual speaking to finish off their point, I would then abruptly and confidently slip my point in before any other individual could speak before me.

Individual Presentation

At the beginning of my presentation, as I stood up in front of my audience, I was slightly nervous however knowing I completed sufficient research allowed my nerves to be calmed.

The aspects I think went well are that I expressed all my points I wanted to talk about and explained them clearly so the audience understood. Additionally I felt I did well at the spontaneous questions that were thrown at us at the end of each presentation, as I feel I came up with good points and opinions that supported my presentation.

The detail I would do differently in the future whilst giving a presentation is to probably try to give more eye contact and prompt audience participation. I would do this by stating conversational points to keep audience intrigued and interested and ask them questions they can respond to, which would probably include closed questions.

1-2-1 Interview

At the beginning of the interview I was quite nervous, as I've not had much experience in many formal interviews.

During the interview what I think went well was the amount of eye contact and how I explained my qualities and skills.

The aspect's I would do differently for the future when undertaking an interview is to actually have a structure to my answers so I'm not repeating myself.

In order to complete this improvement, I would follow the STAR response (Situation, Task, Action, Result)
