Layout of actual website

When deciding the layout of my website and how it will be used, I wanted to keep it quite simple and clean, not too busy.

I designed the landing page to be slick and quite plain. Therefore I displayed my logo there as part of my branding to give it a professional feel.

I also went for the drop boxes as I feel it's a neat way of sectioning and listing certain information, and allows it to be organised in a clear and easy way for user to navigate.

Additionally on the "title" pages I wanted them to be interactive as well, so each photo or image is clickable and links to the page where I elaborate on it more.

I wanted to make sure my social media was present throughout as I wanted to show my online presence, as well as showing my knowledge of the platforms. On my about page I linked my University Instagram to support the information I was expressing about myself. Therefore the most recent posts were visible on the page.

The aspects I like about the layout of my website, is how its consistent and all goes aesthetically together. For example my logo at the front is a black circle with purple font, which also my social media icons are the same.

Additionally I like how there are a range of features that differ from taking you to a new page/tab when clicking such as social media and fashion blog and features that keep on the same tab but take you to a different page, as this makes it more interesting to navigate through.

The aspect I would want to slightly improve is the amount of tabs on the menu bar, as I feel there could be too many. However there needs to be that many as they are all organised in certain groups due to the information they contain, therefore this allows the user to navigate through certain workshops.

Colour and font Choice

I chose the three main colours of my website lilac, black and grey. I chose lilac to be my main colour of my website, as my fashion blog I created previously was this colour, therefore I've used this as my branding colour, as my CV and business cards also contain lilac.

However in order to make my work clear to read and stand out from page, I made the middle of the page white, so text is easy to see, as it may be hard to read on a purple background.

I chose three fonts to use throughout the website, as I wanted it to be continuous throughout. Therefore for the title of the page I used a bold font "open sans condensed" that was larger than the others.

Then for the subtitles I used the same font as title but made it smaller in order to break up the small text that carries most of the information. I wanted all the texts to be a similar style, so they all fitted in.

Layout of pages

For the layout of the pages for each topic I wanted it to be in chronological order so it shows my process of my journey. Additionally I wanted to start with some visuals to create interest, whilst placing a paragraph near to give it explanation. I like this layout as I feel it has an order that's easy to follow, with examples of my process. Additionally my layout and style of content changes depending on what the topic of the page is.

Also I was very particular about what work I included on my website to make sure it showed my development clearly and how I progressed from the first workshop.

In conclusion.....

Therefore in conclusion I've learnt how to make a website from scratch, as I've included features I've never created before, such as interactive photos that when you click on them they take you to different pages, and linking other websites actually in the text to support what I'm talking about. Additionally another technical skill I developed was how to make main pages and sub pages to create a drop down box to store titles for the different pages.

Therefore overall I feel I can now confidently create and develop a website.
