MISSGUIDED CAMPAIGN VIDEO

Whilst producing this campaign video in the style of Missguided, there were many steps taken before the creation.  Firstly we had to study the Missguided style in campaign videos and understand the different type of shots they included, as well as the content and what was their main message to get across.  Whilst analyzing them I found they used shots such as, establishing shots to set the location, long shots so the full outfit and scenery was able to be seen, also close ups were shot so the details of item of clothing’s were expressed, and finally a pan up shot. Next as a team we made a story board with the concept of our idea clearly portrayed within, this being friends meeting up and going out for the day. As there was an understanding that Missguided is all about girl power and girl gang, so friendship was important. We also planned our shot types including the locations where we were going to film it, making sure it fit Missguided’s aesthetics. Once we had completed the filming, we edited making sure it contained short quick shots, as Missguided do this, we then sped some of the shots up too, as well as slowing the really short shots down to allow them to stay on screen for longer. We also reversed some clips, which fast fashion brands often do to add interest. As this kind of editing is due to the fast pace of social media, that high street stores are very present on. We then added an order to the shots to express a subtle story and added relevant music and text.

Reflection

The aspects I feel went well was understanding the brand, which is all about girl gang and friendships, therefore I feel we portrayed this well.

Another positive is the quality of editing, as me and my group have never edited a video before however I feel we captured the quick pace of editing, that Missguided include, well. Also the joining up of different angles such as the hug shot was quite seamless.

Additionally the other aspect I feel went well was the range of locations we used, as we only had a day to shoot it therefore we were very efficient with time to shoot the range of places.

The aspects I would improve are doing some more long shots of the models when they are stood up to showcase the outfits more. Therefore when I shoot future campaign videos in the style of the other high street brands e.g. Boohoo, I will make I shoot long shots of the model actually completing some actions such as spinning round, or walking towards the camera.

I learnt how important a range of different type’s shots is in order to give the film some interest when edited. Also its vital to always make sure to film more than you need, as our team did this and we actually ended up cutting some of them down whilst trying to make it a fast pace video.

Development

Since completing my first film, I went out and filmed a new campaign film for Missguided, this also in the style of fast fashion brands, but I got inspiration from  In The Style's photo shoot they did with Sarah Ashcroft. Therefore I picked the location of a supermarket. I used the same skills I learnt in the other editing session, allowing the clips to be fast paced and quick, showing a range of outfits. The styling of the outfits I focused on Autumn/ Winter again. I studied their campaign videos to see what music they use, therefore I used an artist they used in a previous video but a different song. Therefore I used "Clap Clap" by CliQ as I feel this suits Missguided upbeat and vibrant style of their videos they produce.
